About MACC

Macclesfield Afternoon Community Choir is a medium-sized mixed voice choir of around 40 voices. We are very keen to recruit more men to this choir as we currently only have a couple of male voices but we still manage to sing in three-part harmony: soprano, alto, and men.

M.A.C.C. sings music from across a wide spectrum of genres and loves everything we tackle. They stage two concerts a year, in July and at Christmas, both of which are held in St Paul’s Church, Macclesfield which is attached to the parish room where we rehearse.

Pre-Covid, the choir sang at St Paul’s summer fair each year and were usually blessed with lovely weather. We hope we’ll be able to repeat this event in the future.

As well as participating in our wider Cantata events, details of which are on our About page, M.A.C.C. have also given a concert for the Macclesfield branch of the Royal British Legion to help them launch their fund-raising and in 2016 were invited to sing in Chester Cathedral for a special service for Mother’s Union. You can see some photographs of us at this event in our Gallery page.

M.A.C.C. was formed in 2010 initially in partnership with Age UK who were keen to get a community choir up and running in the town. Although we’re no longer linked with Age UK, the choir has gone from strength to strength, and we have great fun on Thursday afternoons.

We rehearse from 2.15pm – 3.45pm, starting with some warm-ups before moving onto songs. At the end of the 90-minute singing session, there is the opportunity to chat with other choir members over a well-earned brew and a biscuit that is included in the price.

If you are interested in coming along to a M.A.C.C. rehearsal, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
