About The Orchestra

Poynton Community Orchestra was launched in November 2011 as a direct result of the funding received for our community production of Britten’s ‘Noye’s Fludde’.

The aim behind the orchestra was to create a group where adults who had either not played for many years or who had taken up an instrument during retirement could come together and share in their enjoyment of making music.

There are only two rules: players must be over 18 and this we adhere to quite strictly. The other is players need to be grade V downwards, although we don’t stick to this quite as strictly.

Poynton Community Orchestra

Poynton Community Orchestra has an eclectic mix of instruments including saxophones, accordions and euphonium alongside the more regular strings and woodwind instruments.

We endeavor to include any instrument, arranging parts for people as necessary. There are no auditions, and anyone is welcome to come along and have a play.

Orchestra rehearsals are taken by retired BBC Philharmonic violinist, Nigel Jay and there is currently about 25 players.

Like our choirs, the orchestra performs two concerts a year.
